The Artwork:
Moose head and neck , with new growth antlers, feeding on water plants.
Although it is intended for interior display, it can be set on the patio or in the garden. Marble does not weather as well as stone, and should probably be brought inside in winter at least.
This is the largest wildlife in marble, I have done to date. I recently finished a blue heron in granite that is larger.
The theme of new growth antlers are an attempt to avoid too fragile a work and also lend themselves to a slightly stylized feel, even though the animal is done in realist style.
The polish on the antlers helps to give this affect.
The marble used for this carving comes from a quarry in northern Nova Scotia, where it is being cut for counter tops. The mottled mix of colours is quite striking in itself. The crystalline nature of the stone makes it hard to work with, but the affect is worth it.
The Collection:
Original Wildlife sculpture hand carved in marble, stone, and wood. A one only piece, with no reproductions. Ideal for home decor or that special place in the den.
