Carving makes the stone appear grey,
but polishing will bring out the rich black you can see in the chip above.

ears are indicated and will be given a final shape later

This is the step where I define the final body shape.
It helps give a smooth trnsition of form,
form one body part to another.

The first steps in polishing.
I still have details I want to do on the face and ears,
and the bottom needs leveling,
but I decided to begin polishing the body fur.
A little water makes it look black now as opposed to dark grey.
Little Dog Lucy looks on with interest.

The first two steps in polishing have been done on the body,
and I sprayed it with water to give a feel for the final look.
